The following chart represents the value per head sold at Norton Livestock for each of the quarters presented. We have taken the gross dollar value divided by the number of head sold (a mix of cows, pairs, calves, feeder cattle, etc.). This results in a broad trend line of cattle prices at the local market. Caution: This data is not comparable from sale barn to sale barn as the mix of cattle may vary significantly. Furthermore, the mix of cattle sold varies from quarter to quarter.

Most Recent Week's Market Report and Commentary

November 6, 2025. We had a nice run of calves this week along with a load of big grass steers. We had some real standout sales with a pretty solid market all the way around all things considered. We had a number of extra buyers that are farmer feeders on the seats that pushed the market up on some of the sets of calves. I want to share this week what our computer system gives us for an auction weighted average report. Remember this is for all the calves regardless of kind, quality and condition.

 

Steers:

18 – 300-399# avg 345# at $504.50

37 – 400-499# avg 452# at $440.00

173 – 500-599# avg 553# at $395.93

244 – 600-699# avg 644# at $361.27

27 – 700-799# avg 745# at $323.40

 

Heifers:

25 – 300-399 avg 364# at $400.42

36 – 400-499 avg 449# at $369.17

142 – 500-599 avg 551# at $335.25

69 – 600-699 avg 647# at $308.75

 

Here’s a few standout sales:

Steers:

445# at $501.00

569# at $442.50

626# at $400.00

717# at 336.00

 

Heifers:

349# at $460.00

400# at $425.00

623# at $327.00

 

10 of our bigger calf consignments averaged $2,133 per head with a range of $1,965 to $2,330 per head.

 

Feeders:

53 strs – 975# - $301.00

 

Cows: Top of $188 cwt. Turn out and feeding cows $183 cwt. to $203 cwt.

Bulls: Top $186.00 cwt.
