The following chart represents the value per head sold at Norton Livestock for each of the quarters presented. We have taken the gross dollar value divided by the number of head sold (a mix of cows, pairs, calves, feeder cattle, etc.). This results in a broad trend line of cattle prices at the local market. Caution: This data is not comparable from sale barn to sale barn as the mix of cattle may vary significantly. Furthermore, the mix of cattle sold varies from quarter to quarter.

Most Recent Week's Market Report and Commentary
May 28, 2026. We continue to see a larger than usual run of baby calves. Don't get me wrong, not in huge numbers, but a lot for this time of year it seems. Breeding stock continues to bring respectable prices. Weigh-up stock was steady or a little cheaper. Feeders and calves bring all they can and they are not paying much attention to the board. Cattle are still making money, but higher interest rates and always a question about the next corn crop size still make us think about them driving down the road.
We lost our father, Clarence, this week. He truly loved livestock and all that goes with it. The sale barn business was his second home. Kelly and I appreciate him giving us a start in this business and hope to continue offering a competitive cattle market for producers just as he did. We want to say thank you to all the people Dad did business with.
