The following chart represents the value per head sold at Norton Livestock for each of the quarters presented. We have taken the gross dollar value divided by the number of head sold (a mix of cows, pairs, calves, feeder cattle, etc.). This results in a broad trend line of cattle prices at the local market. Caution: This data is not comparable from sale barn to sale barn as the mix of cattle may vary significantly. Furthermore, the mix of cattle sold varies from quarter to quarter.

Most Recent Week's Market Report and Commentary
April 16, 2026. The run this week was pretty much made up of pairs and bred cows with some mostly yearling heifers after the stock cows. We saw good demand on the breeding stock and the replacement heifers. It’s dry, we all know that, but the prices of calves and feeders are going to keep those breeding stock prices up there for as long as they can while waiting on rain. My advice, if anyone is asking for it, is to grab up some feed and keep the cows. Feed isn’t real high yet and raising cattle is sure profitable right now. Special fall calf and yearling sale next week.
