The following chart represents the value per head sold at Norton Livestock for each of the quarters presented. We have taken the gross dollar value divided by the number of head sold (a mix of cows, pairs, calves, feeder cattle, etc.). This results in a broad trend line of cattle prices at the local market. Caution: This data is not comparable from sale barn to sale barn as the mix of cattle may vary significantly. Furthermore, the mix of cattle sold varies from quarter to quarter.

Most Recent Week's Market Report and Commentary

July 9, 2026. Wheat harvest started three weeks ago and its finally about done. It’s been a tough one with much needed rains and showers that have really helped the grass situation in our area. I just dumped out our biggest rain of the year at 1.90 inches from Thursday night. Breeding stock still brings premiums in all classes. We had a light test on calves and feeders but there is always demand no matter the numbers. Weigh up stock was maybe a little cheaper but not much. Next sale in two weeks on July 23 selling all classes of cattle.

Breeding Stock:

12 – blk pairs-older cows-250# calves - $4,225.

7 – red & blk bred cows-solid mouth-fall bred - $3,050.

11 – red & blk bred cows-short solid mouth-fall bred - $3,010.

5 – red & blk bred cows-short term-fall bred - $2,450.

Steers:

21 – 837# - $355.00

Cows: Top cow: $190.00 cwt. Mostly $175 to $185.
Bulls: Top bull: $225.00 cwt.
