The following chart represents the value per head sold at Norton Livestock for each of the quarters presented. We have taken the gross dollar value divided by the number of head sold (a mix of cows, pairs, calves, feeder cattle, etc.). This results in a broad trend line of cattle prices at the local market. Caution: This data is not comparable from sale barn to sale barn as the mix of cattle may vary significantly. Furthermore, the mix of cattle sold varies from quarter to quarter.
Most Recent Week's Market Report and Commentary
February 26, 2026. Our offering was made up of black replacement quality heifers and feeder cattle over 600#. The replacement heifers met very good demand, and I’d have to call our feeder cattle market steady despite the CME being lower. I see it’s lower again this Friday morning. At or near $250/cwt for fat cattle is quite a price in the cash so feeders and calves stay pretty good in price. About the only thing we are missing is some good general moisture and hopefully it will come. Regular sale next week so please call to consign. Have a great week.
